MENU FOR THE “WINTER SHARE”

What is in the freezer!
As of September 22, 2007

Summer Squash:
Amy Hepworth grew us some beautiful Yellow and Green summer squash. We were also able to add some from Brook Farm. You probably had plenty in season, but won’t it be nice to have some this winter!

Green Beans:
We didn’t think we would do any this season, but Markristo Farm had a great crop and a bean picker! Production was tricky without a bean snipper… “ask me and I’ll explain,” but we hope this can become a standard item.

Peppers:
Red Peppers, Yellow Peppers, Green Peppers and even some HOT Peppers. We had a lot of farms help out here. We did Red Peppers, Red and Green Mix, and a beautiful Tri-color Mix…and a small amount of HOT, for those that like it spicy.

Sugar Snap Peas:
Pete Taliaferro grew some beautiful ones. We got just enough done for every one to get one and we are anxious to see what you think.

Broccoli:
Bright green florets and broccoli gems! Another great standard we hope to do more before the season ends.

Yellow Tomato:
We have Carolina Gold Diced Tomatoes that have an itense color and sweet flavor. It is the tomato all by itself, to make a sauce add your favorite ingredients and enjoy. It makes a great quick summer style sauce…check out my Winter/Summer Sauce with Y&G Squash under Recipes. We also did a small amount of delicious Heirloom Yellow Pear Tomatoes.

Raspberries:
What a season for Raspberries! Meadow View Farm had a bumper crop and we did a lot. Everyone will get at least two in their share. We were not so lucky with strawberries, and we only did a small amount, but we did some low-spray blackberries from Quimby Farm in Milton.

San Marzano Plum Tomatoes:
We also did some Heirloom Italians from Bradley Farm. Remember don’t expect a sauce, this is the tomato by itself waiting for you to create your best sauce. Keep an eye on the Recipe section for new recipes.

Corn:
Ken Migliorelli grew us a field of corn using only organic methods. The corn came out great and he’s thinking of growing all of his corn this way next year!
